Hi, share with us a little more about you!
Veronique: Hi! I'm Vero, founder of Bohème, and I'm currently based in Singapore. I've travelled across the globe since an early age and had explored beautiful and amazing parts of the world within Asia and Europe. Bohème was heavily inspired by the memories of my travel wanderlust.
Tell us more about your beautiful collection. V: Each line shares its own story from the location it has been inspired by and allows you to personally experience and indulge in these travels. Each piece is gold-plated, hand-crafted in Jaipur and adorned with semi-precious stones. Each line is inspired, unique and bold but still easy to wear from day to night, from the office, the beach to the club. They are designed for the strong , independent women of any age who dare to be different.
Take us through the process of conceptualising a product and seeing it come to live. V: I'm always inspired through my travels. It could be by a monument , a piece of art, the beauty of nature ... the list is endless. When building on a concept, I will choose a destination I have visited and loved, sketch my designs and send to my long-term 3D specialist in India for a formalised product design before delivering them to my workshop.
With the production line not based in Singapore, what are some challenges faced and how do you enforce ethical production? V: Even though I am now based in Singapore, I lived in India for 9 years and had forged trusted and reliable connections with the local community. I've been working with the same workshop for close to 13 years now, and I personally visit them at least twice a year to supervise the sampling process of my bi-annual collections.
In your opinion, what does the future hold in terms of sustainable innovation? V: It holds no boundaries! We can be sustainable and fun at the same time. There are plans to upcycle some of Bohème's older stocks to create a new collection in 2021. I hope to explore mediums to use treated brass and silver for new collections.
What are some little steps in your daily life you've take on to live more sustainably?
V: Some shifts include eating less meat and making conscious choice to only consume meat from ethical sources. I'm also slowly shifting to buying food in bulk in order to reduce plastic packaging. In my household, we compost our food waste too. We never throw clothes but rather give them to charities, such as "The Shanti Foundation" in Bali that is created by my father-in-law.
